Esports betting: why is it fun?

Usually, you don’t get a tiny surge of adrenaline as you watch your favorite team getting closer and closer to the finish line without having skin in the game yourself. Once you’ve got something tangible on the result, it’s all the more entertaining to cheer on a side, and with a nice chunk of change as your reward when you got your prediction right, it makes it all the more satisfying to put some thought into the potential outcomes.

With Rivalry, you can place a bet wherever you are with mobile betting, ride the highs and lows by betting on your favorite player and explore many esports games from the top titles to some nice niche stuff. We’ve got a few examples below but do be sure to check out just how many games we’ve got available for esports betting:

League of Legends

No esports list would be complete without Riot’s MOBA, a phenomenon in its own right with a humongous casual player base and perhaps the best sponsorship integrations in the industry. The devs are clearly putting a ton of effort into curating LoL esports and both the eyeballs and the dollars coming in seem to suggest that they’re doing something right.

Dota 2

For people who don’t like their pastimes simple, Dota 2 is the way to go. It will take thousands of hours to even take the red pill, let alone to see the lines of code in the Matrix, but it’s a testament to how entertaining the journey is that Dota remains one of the biggest games out there after all these years. And of course, there’s The International, the esports juggernaut event that is a must-watch for every fan.

Call of Duty

You may think of CoD as the big casual pew pew shooter on the market but it is actually becoming a serious esports in its own right. Yes, very American and very commercialized, but an esport nevertheless, even if all the sponsored awards and playbacks and modes may make you cringe as a regular gaming fan. Still, it’s impossible to argue with results and the way the Call of Duty League has outpaced the Overwatch League in terms of viewer numbers on YouTube is impressive, to say the least, and a game with a massive casual audience and a growing competitive scene is worth taking a look at by itself.

CS:GO

Twenty years on, still kicking. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is nailed onto the top of the most-played Steam games, easily surpassing Dota 2’s record once it went free to play a few years ago. The tactical and brutal gameplay of CS attracts fans from around the world and serves up some of the most awesome esports moments year after year.

Valorant

If you want a game like CS that is less rough around the edges, Valorant might be the one for you. Made by the people behind LoL with the explicit goal of taking CS:GO’s crown, Valorant is aggressively marketed as the next big esport, and judging by the interest of so many big orgs and top players, they might just actually pull it off.

Rainbow Six Siege

We’re still in the realms of tactical first-person shooters with this one but it’s a little different from the two titles above: the Rainbow Six franchise has been around for quite a while but it had more to do with punishing pre-plan phases and shepherding AI commando members rather than a very tightly constructed multiplayer package. Siege has the magic of so many other esport titles, an endlessly replayable set of close quarter encounters in a partially destructible environment and an unforgiving gunplay – at much higher fidelity than their counterparts, too.

Overwatch

Blizzard’s games played such a large part in forging the path for esports that you can’t blame them for going super greedy for this one. Their aim was to revitalize the team-based FPS concept with Overwatch – which they mostly succeeded at – while also turning up competitive gaming a notch with a huge franchised league pushed by big investors willing to lay down astronomical amounts of money for slots in the competition. Whether this one also works out remains to be seen, but the dreams of world conquest from the early days are surely long gone now.

FIFA

You know the drill: FIFA is like soccer (or football, we’ll let you make that pick) but one guy’s controlling all the superstars. Turns out it works pretty well as an esport, as the many boomers joining us in the digital space during the pandemic could attest!

NBA 2K

The same logic applies to NBA 2K: the game is a fun representation of real-life basketball competitions, distilling the teamwork into a single individual’s blood, sweat and tears behind the controller, and when the real games are not on, it serves as a pretty decent alternative in a pinch for viewers and bettors alike!

LoL Wild Rift

Wild Rift is the mobile version of League of Legends and a bona fide esport in its own right with massive audiences and great interest in its competitive scene. It is a slightly modified version of the original LoL experience to better fit handheld devices, but it is otherwise basically the same League gameplay you know and love: five versus five, ganks and wards, teamfights and unintended farming accidents galore!

MLBB

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is Moonton’s entry into the mobile MOBA scene, a 2016 game with a surprisingly large competitive following. The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League features fifteen regions across the world and a world championship final to conclude the global season in an exciting manner.

CoD Mobile

The mobile version of Call of Duty offers the same levels of adrenaline rush as its main counterparts, and it’s no surprise that its esports scene is also attracting widespread attention across the whole world. Call of Duty Mobile features battle royale and regular multiplayer modes as well, with the yearly World Championship finals offering a $1 million prize pool for the best players in the world to compete for. It’s a massive gaming phenomenon, and its October 2019 release was one of the largest launches in mobile gaming history.

Free Fire

Garena Free Fire is hugely popular these days, with more than 100 million active players and professional tournaments that offer millions of dollars in prizes. Free Fire betting is something that Rivalry takes very seriously, so you can expect to find Free Fire odds on our site for every important event, whether it’s the Free Fire World Series or something else.

PUBG

In the Battle Royale genre, few games have reached the heights of PUBG. This esport is currently played by millions and its competitions are famous around the globe. Rivalry covers every significant PUGB event, such as the PUBG Continental Series, the PUBG Nations Cup, or the PUBG Global Championship. So if PUBG betting is your jam, you will find here plenty of action to bet on.

Wild Rift

Wild Rift is the mobile version of League of Legends and over 8 million people around the world play it regularly. Wild Rift betting is one of Rivalry’s specialties, so tournaments like Horizon Cup, Icons Global Championship, and Wild Rift League are thoroughly covered. Whenever there’s Wild Rift action to bet on, scan our site for Wild Rift odds and you’ll find plenty of them.
